Casa de Redwood
Probably the most significant mission performed by First Church (at least in modern times) has been our sponsorship of “Casa de Redwood”, providing much needed housing to low-income seniors in a modern seven-story structure on Veterans Blvd. in Redwood City. Open since 1972, it is safe to say that “Casa” would never have been built without the support and sacrifices of the members of First Congregational Church of Redwood City. While many other prominent local people were involved in this monumental effort, our church membership became the official “sponsor” required by HUD to establish the facility.
Many members of our Congregation donated their “time, talent and treasures” to bring “Casa” to life, and the “sponsorship” remains in effect to this day.
Current members of Casa’s Board of Trustees with affiliation to our church are:
Howard Macway
Jerry Lucey
Bennett Kuhn
Maynard Nonnemacher
Bill Van Cleve
Our Craft Group is currently working on Christmas gifts to be given to each of the 136 residents at Christmas this year.
First Church often holds worship at Casa. In addition to the many members and friends of First Church, a number of Casa residents attend and participate in the worship and music and fellowship and fun.
